White House Claims Biden Has ‘Done the Work’ on Border Crisis

'We know how to work with Republicans; Republicans know how to work with us...'

(Headline USA) The White House claimed on Thursday that President Joe Biden has “done the work” on securing the border, despite the record-high illegal immigration that has occurred under his watch.

“The president has done the work to deal with what we are seeing at the border since day one,” White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said during a briefing, according to Fox News.

She added that Biden’s team has had to do that work “on our own” because congressional Republicans oppose Biden’s immigration policies.

“We know how to work with Republicans; Republicans know how to work with us,” she said. “So why don’t they work with us on this particular issue that is important to—important to Americans across the country? And we’re asking for them to join us on this.”

Jean-Pierre also took a jab at the Trump administration.

“What Americans should know is that the president put forward an immigration reform policy to make sure that we’re dealing with the broken system, to make sure that we’re able to protect Dreamers, to make sure that we deal with the backlog that we’re seeing with asylum seekers, to fix the gutted system that has been around for some time, but certainly was gutted by the last administration,” she claimed.

She then suggested that Biden’s proposed DACA reforms, which include amnesty for tens of thousands of illegal immigrants, would help solve the border crisis.

This past year, there were more than 2.3 million migrant encounters. Fiscal year 2023 is on pace to exceed that.

Border officials expect the flood of migrants to keep worsening if the Biden administration moves forward with its plan to end Title 42, a Trump-era policy that allows border agents to immediately remove from the country any migrant who does not meet asylum requirements.

According toe Jean-Pierre, however, the White House already has it under control.
