(Luis Cornelio, Headline USA) Federal investigators reportedly met with a top New York state prosecutor who is accusing his boss, leftist Attorney General Letitia James, of using her office to orchestrate another witch hunt against President Donald Trump.
Officials with the DOJ and the FBI interviewed Daniel Wiesenfeld, a now-suspended assistant attorney general in the Investor Protection Bureau of the state attorney general, “for several hours” on Tuesday, according to the New York Post.
Wiesenfeld garnered attention after sending an office-wide email to more than 2,000 colleagues accusing his direct supervisor, Investor Protection Bureau Chief Shamiso Maswoswe, of instructing him “to find and pursue crimes committed by specific individuals and organizations affiliated with Donald Trump.”
The Post reported that the specific details of the DOJ’s meeting with Wiesenfeld remain unknown.
Wiesenfeld’s email, which was revealed by the Times Union, was reportedly quickly scrubbed from the office’s servers. He was subsequently placed on administrative leave.
In the email, he specifically wrote:
“If you believe Trump is using (Department of Justice) attorneys to prosecute his enemies and further his political interests, you should find it equally troubling that Tish (James) is doing exactly the same thing. I ask that you not serve as Tish’s personal attorneys by targeting her political enemies. Instead, I hope you choose to prosecute crimes and find the individuals accountable, rather than targeting individuals and then finding crimes.”
Wiesenfeld also said James was using “significant public taxpayer dollars to target convenient public enemies.”
James has never been shy about her plans to use her office to target Trump. During her 2018 campaign for attorney general, she vowed to investigate Trump and his business dealings even absent evidence of wrongdoing.
Now that Trump is back in office, Democrats, including James, have accused Trump of using the DOJ to target his perceived political enemies.
In October 2025, a federal grand jury in the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Virginia returned an indictment against James on financial fraud-related offenses.
Specifically, the indictment alleged that James falsely claimed a home in Norfolk as her second residence instead of a rental property to secure more favorable mortgage loans. A federal judge later tossed the indictment, claiming that the appointment of the then-U.S. attorney, Lindsey Halligan, was unlawful.
