Trump Suggests DeSantis is a Groomer, Sparking Conservative Backlash

'That’s not Ron, is it? He would never do such a thing!'

(Ken Silva, Headline USAIn a Tuesday post on Truth Social, former President Donald Trump suggested that up-and-coming political rival and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis is a groomer—furthering the growing divide within the GOP.

Trump’s account reposted a meme featuring what appears to be a young DeSantis with several young ladies drinking beer. The meme says, “Here is Ron DeSanctimonious grooming high school girls with alcohol as a teacher.”

“That’s not Ron, is it?” Trump commented. “He would never do such a thing!”

Trump has stepped up his attacks against DeSantis in recent weeks, even though the Florida governor has yet to respond or formally announce his bid for President.

“Ron DeSanctimonious, who I made Governor in BOTH the Primary & the General, is also a Globalist, & so are his donors,” Trump said on Jan. 30, later adding on the same day that “the revelations about Ron DeSanctimonious doing FAR WORSE than many other Republican governors, including that he unapologetically shut down Florida and its beaches, was interesting, indeed … DJT leading BIG!!!!”

This latest attack referring to DeSantis as a groomer—someone who builds a relationship, trust and emotional connection with a child or young person so they can manipulate, exploit and abuse them—sparked a strong reaction on social media among supporters and detractors alike.

Conservative pundit Mike Cernovich speculated that Trump’s salacious attack was an attempt to illicit a reaction from DeSantis, who has yet to respond to his barbs.

Pedro Gonzales, a writer for conservative cultural magazine Chronicles, clapped back at Trump by pointing to his previous connections with deceased billionaire pedophile Jeffrey Epstein.

Gonzales clarified that he doesn’t think Trump is a groomer, either—but said he was pointing out how stupid Trump’s campaign is.

“It is the definition of unserious, throwing rocks in a glass house stupid, not just in terms of policies but personalities,” he said.
