Top PA Republican Files Impeachment Resolution Against Leftist Philly DA

(Headline USA) A top Pennsylvania Republican introduced an impeachment resolution against leftist Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner this week, alleging that Krasner’s refusal to get tough on crime has contributed to skyrocketing crime levels in the city.

“The recent spike in violent crime is a direct result of DA Krasner’s failed policies and his refusal to perform the duties of his office to hold criminals accountable for the crimes that they commit,” state Senate President Pro Tempore Jake Corman wrote in a letter to Republican leaders in the state House of Representatives.

Krasner’s “decision to allow more and more criminals to walk free through plea deals and dismissed charges has created an environment in which Philadelphians are no longer safe in their own homes and communities,” Corman added.

The Republican cited a recent article by the Philadelphia Citizen that revealed Krasner has dismissed or withdrawn a high number of violent or gun-related cases since taking office. In fact, the number of violent cases he has dismissed has increased every year he has been the city’s district attorney, the article said.

Krasner also claimed the city was not experiencing a “crisis of lawlessness,” saying earlier this month that Philadelphia does not “have a crisis of crime – we don’t have a crisis of violence.”

He later apologized for his statement, calling it “inarticulate.”

“The message conveyed through media sound bites is not at all what I meant,” he said.

Corman said it’s time state lawmakers took “meaningful action” to make Philadelphia residents feel safe.

“As elected officials of this Commonwealth, we cannot turn a blind eye to DA Krasner’s clear dereliction of duty,” Corman wrote. “Meaningful action must be taken to restore a sense of security to the communities and families that have been negatively impacted by his negligence.”
