Texas Official Switches to GOP Over Democrats’ Refusal to Enforce the Border

'Every day, we are meeting with people who have voted for Democrats for decades but that this is no longer their Abuelos’ Democratic Party...'

(Headline USAA Texas Democrat official revealed this week that she is leaving her party and switching to the GOP as a result of Democrats’ failure to address the border crisis.

Kleberg County Attorney Kira Talip Sanchez said she works with law enforcement on a daily basis to “ensure the safety of the citizens of Kleberg County.” Democrats have been actively undermining that work, she said, by ignoring the “unprecedented crisis” at the southern border, Fox News reported.

“I believe that the GOP’s policies of law and order protecting safety and backing the blue best align with my values and the values of the citizens of Kleberg County. I look forward to working with my colleagues to keep South Texas safe,” Sanchez said in a statement.

Voted into office in 2014, Sanchez oversees the county’s Specialized Crimes and Narcotics Task Force, which “plays a vital role in intercepting deadly drugs coming through the southern border before distribution,” according to the Hispanic Republicans of Texas.

HRT’s president, Cassy Garcia, said Sanchez is just one of many Democrat voters in Kleberg County, which historically leans Left, who are switching to the GOP as the migrant crisis continues to worsen.

“Every day, we are meeting with people who have voted for Democrats for decades but that this is no longer their Abuelos’ Democratic Party,” Garcia said. “It’s become too radical, elitist, and out of touch with our values.”

Texas officials have been doing their part to crack down on illegal border crossings and drug trafficking, despite the Biden administration’s opposition to their efforts. Last month, for example, the Justice Department sued Texas after the state placed floating barriers in the Rio Grande to thwart migrants from crossing into the country.

“I got news for Joe Biden. We are not removing the buoys or barriers that we have securing the border,” Gov. Greg Abbott said in response. “Mr. President, we will see you in the United States Supreme Court.”
