(Joshua Paladino, Headline USA) New research has demonstrated the well-known trend that parents hold more conservative views, particularly regarding abortion, sex, immigration and foreign policy, than people without children.
Researchers at Pennsylvania University in Philadelphia interviewed 2,610 adults in 10 countries and asked them about their devotion to parenthood and their political opinions, the Daily Mail reported.
Those respondents with children or who stated a strong desire to care for other people’s children had more socially conservative views than adults without children or with no interest in caring for children.
The same link did not hold for economic issues. Parents and nurturing people were not more likely to support fiscal responsibility or restrictions on welfare than childless adults or people uninterested in children.
To gauge their attitudes and desires, researchers had respondents rate their agreement with statements like, “When I see infants, I want to hold them.”
These trends held “around the globe,” showing a marker for “social conservatism” rooted in human nature rather than environmental or political factors.
The researchers, who published their findings in The Royal Society, said that this experiment could help them understand the effects of certain laws, like abortion restrictions or China’s “one child” rule, and contraceptives, like birth control, on a country’s political attitudes.
In other words, the findings suggest that pro-life laws and policies could create a nation with life-nurturing instincts, while pro-abortion and pro-birth control laws and policies could create a nation whose people feel indifferent or hostile to children.
“Specifically, our findings would suggest that global increases in childlessness could potentially contribute to a process of liberalization on social issues,” the researchers wrote.
The research reveals the reason why Leftists do not want children and why they do not want young people to get married and have children, either. The joys and responsibilities of parenthood often show young people the absurdity of their ideological convictions.
