Son Kills Intruder Claiming to be Health-Care Worker in Houston

'You don’t think it would be something that would happen around here. This part of the neighborhood is very strong, so it’s just crazy...'

(John RansomHeadline USA) A son killed a man who police say was claiming to be a healthcare worker intent on breaking into a woman’s home in Houston.

The 65-year-old woman was at home alone when the man attempted to force entry into her home.

She called her 40-year-old son, who was just several blocks away, and he responded immediately, according to local NBC affiliate KPRC.

Police said the man initially tried to force his way into the home dressed as a nurse and told the mother that he was with home health care, said CW 39 Houston.

But she didn’t believe the story and denied the supposed nurse entry to her home.

The woman had just retrieved a gun of her own as the man was attempting to kick in the door. He had partially succeeded when the son arrived in time to fight—and eventually shoot—the man.

“It appears the suspect attempted to get into the house, first by a ruse that didn’t work, and then he tried to force entry,” said police, talking to KTRK TV.

Neighbors said that they heard multiple gunshots, and are still stunned by what happened in the quiet neighborhood.

“It’s crazy,” said one anonymous resident to KTRK.

“You don’t think it would be something that would happen around here,” the neighbor continued. “This part of the neighborhood is very strong, so it’s just crazy.”

Both the mother and the son waited at the scene for police to arrive.

The police found the would-be intruder dead at the scene, said News 4 in San Antonio.

Please have not yet been able to identify the dead man.

A neighbor, however, who recently hired a home caregiver, said his caregiver is missing and he’s not answering his phone, according to reports from KTRK TV.

The case now goes to the grand jury to see if any charges are warranted.
