(Luis Cornelio, Headline USA) In a Friday interview with Fox Business with Larry Kudlow, Sen. Marsha Blackburn, R-Tenn., criticized the Biden administration’s apparent blatant disregard of a Supreme Court ruling regarding the Department of Education’s authority to forgive student loans.
The Court’s ruling stated the department did not have the authority to appropriate funds for this purpose, particularly exploiting and expanding a program originally meant for veterans.
“[The Biden administration] decided to play, ‘Here we go again,’ and modify their offering and see if they can push it through, but Larry, I am certain the Court is going to weigh in on this.” Blackburn said of the Biden administration’s newly revamped plan.
President Joe Biden announced on Friday a new plan to forgive the student loan debt of over 800,000 borrowers in America following a major smackdown by the Court earlier this month.
“These borrowers will join the millions of people that my Administration has provided relief to over the past two years – resulting in over $116 billion in loan relief to over 3 million borrowers under my Administration,” Biden claimed in a press release.
However, Blackburn blasted Biden for unleashing the new plan despite the Court’s order. She added, “It goes to show you a few things with this administration: if they can bend the rules to push their radical agenda, they will do it. If they can find a way Illegal legal — whether it’s student loans or the southern border — they’re going to it. This is more of the same.”
Blackburn highlighted that only the U.S. Congress has the authority to appropriate funds for a potential student loan forgiveness plan. Blackburn’s remarks were echoed by Kudlow. “This is like a revolt against the Supreme Court and Joe Biden says he’s for democracy, quote on quote, and he blames others ‘MAGA, MAGA, MAGA. This undermines democracy, doesn’t it now?” Kudlow asked Blackburn.
The Tennessee lawmaker agreed. She said, “What they’re trying to do […] is delegitimize the Court because they want to exercise Court packing, because they want to pass an ethics package. Congress has no business regulating the Supreme Court passing, Supreme Court’s rules.”
Blackburn further criticized the administration’s willingness to defy Court’s rulings. “It is all about pushing their radical leftist agenda and Larry, part of it is because they know the clock is ticking. They know time is running out. Thank goodness, we have the House,” Blackburn continued.
