(Headline USA) Former White House press secretary Jen Psaki speculated this week about whether Rep. James Comer, R-Ky., who is leading the House’s investigation into the Biden family, is being used by China to undermine the U.S.
“How concerned are you that James Comer, the chairman of the [House Oversight Committee], was knowingly [or] unknowingly, working with, co-opted by a foreign agent?” Psaki asked Oversight Committee ranking member Jamie Raskin, D-Md., on her MSNBC show this weekend.
Raskin declined to answer directly, but he claimed he was concerned that the House Oversight Committee was “suddenly being compromised in a really serious way.”
Raskin has previously used his position to push disinformation about the House probes into the Biden family, and his efforts to delegitimize it with the former administration mouthpiece seemed no exception.
“Our legitimacy is being eroded by the tactics adopted by Chairman Comer,” he claimed.
Psaki’s comments followed reports that a key witness in House Republicans’ investigation into the Biden family’s influence-peddling scheme had been hit with federal charges.
Dr. Gal Luft faces charges for unregistered lobbying and arms trafficking.
Luft is accused of failing to register as a foreign agent for the same Chinese energy company that partnered with Hunter Biden and is believed to have paid the Biden family millions of dollars in bribe money in 2017.
Last week, Raskin wrote a letter to Comer claiming the chairman had been “duped” into accepting Luft’s testimony and demanding access to “all materials and information” Luft gave GOP investigators.
Raskin also dismissed Comer’s investigation into the Biden family as a “wild goose chase.”
He made a similar claim during his interview with Psaki.
“There are real issues that are confronting our people and they’re off on this wild goose chase related to Hunter Biden and Joe Biden, and their main witnesses are people who are fleeing justice in America,” he said.
Comer has uncovered evidence directly linking several members of the Biden family to foreign companies, including the Chinese state-backed energy conglomerate CEFC.
He said last week that despite the charges against Luft, he still wants to hear from Luft.
“Gal Luft was paid by CEFC, the same [Chinese Communist Party]-linked company that paid the Bidens,” he tweeted on Sunday. “In fact, Hunter claimed his father was in the room when he demanded payment from a CEFC associate. We didn’t choose the Bidens’ associates. The Bidens did.”
