Price Controls and Travel Restrictions are Leftist Solutions to Inflation

'Maintaining public support will be critical as President Biden and other democratic leaders around the world ask their citizens to sacrifice... '

(Tony Sifert, Headline USA) The Leftist ruling class is looking to price controls and travel restrictions to lighten the inflationary burdens created by both their irresponsible implementation of progressive policies and their insane escalation of the conflict between Russia and the Ukraine.

In an opinion piece published at The Hill, an associate professor at UVA’s Miller Center for Public Affairs suggested that President Biden implement Franklin Delano Roosevelt’s WWII “wartime price controls” in order to combat “raging energy inflation.”

“Maintaining public support will be critical as President Biden and other democratic leaders around the world ask their citizens to sacrifice for the cause of countering Russia’s war,” professor Guian McKee wrote.

Far from demanding the Biden reverse his decisions to cancel the Keystone XL pipeline and pause the leasing of federal lands for oil and gas exploration, McKee argues that price controls and rationing might help the president maintain his support while curbing inflation.

The International Energy Agency (IEA) has also recommended adding travel restrictions — in the middle of a massive supply chain crisis — to the mix, according to Zero Hedge.

The IEA issued a press release on Friday in which it recommended 10 “practical actions by governments and citizens in advanced economies and beyond [that could] achieve significant reductions in oil demand in a matter of months.”

Among the 10 tone-deaf recommendations are the following:

  • Reduce speed limits on highways by at least 10 km/h
  • Car-free Sundays in cities
  • Using high-speed and night trains instead of planes where possible
  • Reinforce the adoption of electric and more efficient vehicles

In light of the Biden administration’s continuing support for COVID-related travel restrictions, a federal mandate for reduced speed limits and car-free Sundays isn’t far-fetched.

The burden of such policies, as always, will fall on the working and middle classes — on the many Americans who cannot afford to “have a margarita” as their jobs and money are increasingly debased and devalued.
