Pentagon analysts are saying that in order to protect Taiwan from a Chinese invasion, the U.S. and Taiwan should be willing to destroy the semi-conductor industry of the island nation.
“The recommendations appear in the winter issue of Parameters, a quarterly publication from the U.S. Army War College,” reported Just The News (JTN). “Coauthors Jared McKinney and Peter Harris note that the U.S. military no longer scares Beijing to the degree that it once did.”

Last week Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin warned that combat patrols flown by Chinese PLA fighters near Taiwan looked as if they were rehearsals for an invasion of the island home that Chinese communists consider a renegade province of the greater mainland.
“I don’t want to speculate, but certainly … it looks a lot like rehearsals,” Austin said while speaking at a conference in California, according to Reuters.
Former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe warned that any violence by Beijing against the regime in Taipei would result in “economic suicide” for China, said Sanction China.
War games have shown that it’s likely Chinese forces would be able to overrun Taiwan even if Taiwan had considerable U.S. assistance, said JTN. That’s in part because they have built their military to counter exactly what the U.S. would do to defend Taiwan.
“An aggressive red team that had been studying the United States for the last 20 years just ran rings around us,” said Gen. John Hyten, vice chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff about the result of recent war games, according to JTN. “They knew exactly what we’re going to do before we did it.”
As a counter, Pentagon analysts said that the U.S. and Taiwan should threaten to ruin the prize for the ChiComs.
“The United States and Taiwan should lay plans for a targeted scorched-earth strategy that would render Taiwan not just unattractive if ever seized by force, but positively costly to maintain,” the authors wrote.
“This could be done most effectively by threatening to destroy facilities belonging to the Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company,” the added, “the most important chipmaker in the world and China‘s most important supplier.”
Perhaps that’s the “economic suicide” that Shinzo Abe warned about.
