NY Dems Push for Universal Healthcare w/ Massive Tax Hike

'In other words, a state with some of the heaviest taxes in the country would be much more than doubling what it collects from individuals and businesses in a single stroke... '

(John RansomHeadline USA) New Yorkers are on the verge of passing a universal healthcare law for the state that will see an unprecedented tax increase across-the-board and likely won’t cover healthcare for all New Yorkers, according to Just the News.

The tax increases would come from payroll taxes imposed on corporations and progressive taxes imposed on income and capital gains, said the report by the Empire Center, making it more likely that the flight from New York by residents to more friendly states will continue.

“In other words, a state with some of the heaviest taxes in the country would be much more than doubling what it collects from individuals and businesses in a single stroke,” the report states, according to The Center Square.

Still, New York media has been breathless with anticipation for the dawn of a single-payer system that will destroy private health care in New York, praising Assembly Member Richard Gottfried, who is retiring, for shepherding the proposal.

“Gottfried has served as a mentor to that new class of left-wing legislators who will carry on his work when he leaves office. Those include Assembly Member Yuh-Line Niou, who was elected before the more recent wave of democratic socialist victories,” said City and State NY.

The Empire Center said that New Yorkers paid the second-highest per capita state and local tax amounts in the U.S. In 2018, that amount was $9,829 and with a single-payer health-care plan, the tax per capita would nearly double to more than $17,600.

“We will be persistent,” Assemblywoman Nathalia Fernández, D-Bronx, said about passage of single-payer, according to Center Square.

“We will knock on that door every day because your life matters. Everybody deserves to be seen and serviced through this budget… Coverage for all is the right thing to do.”
