MSNBC: Biden was a ‘War Hero,’ ‘Chopped Wood’ Before Being Called Out of Retirement

'Biden was, he was the retired war hero out in the mountains, chopping wood...'

(Molly Bruns, Headline USA) A contributor on MSNBC described Biden as a ‘war hero,’ whose pre-presidential retirement was happy and contented, but unfortunately, forces beyond his control yanked him back into the political world, The Daily Wire reported.

According to contributor Jason Johnson, the 2017 Charlottesville riot—when former President Trump was falsely accused of being sympathetic towards white supremacists—was the final straw, forcing Biden back onto the political stage.

“If you believe the story, which I do, that [Biden] said, ‘I had no intention of running for president,’” said Johnson, a professor at Morgan State University. “He was, he was the retired war hero out in the mountains, chopping wood. Charlottesville brought him back into the fight that he never thought he’d have to fight again.”

Contrary to Johnson’s statements, Biden never served in the military. He was draft eligible during the Vietnam War, but the former high school football star was deferred five times due to asthma.

There has also been no evidence of Biden chopping wood during his off time at his Delaware vacation home, though he does enjoy riding his bike.

Johnson was brought onto the network to discuss a speech by Biden at the United We Stand summit, which Jonson referred to as “charming and engaging.”

In the speech, Biden recalled the Charlottesville riot as a primary reason in his decision to challenge Trump.

“Charlottesville changed everything,” Biden said Thursday at a summit on extremism at the White House attended by the Rev. Al Sharpton, Jonathan Greenblatt of the Anti-Defamation League, and others.

Biden and much of the mainstream media have stood by the claim that Trump praised white supremacists following the riot, saying that there were “very fine people” on both sides of the fight at the rally.

However, the statement in full context indicated that he was referring to the statue debate and not Antifa or white supremacists who clashed.
