Michigan Dem Says High Gas Prices ‘Don’t Matter’ If You Own An Electric Vehicle

'Democrats don't understand the problems of everyday Americans... '

(Headline USA) Sen. Debbie Stabenow, D-Mich., claimed this week that high gas prices don’t matter to those who drive electric vehicles, including herself.

During a Senate Finance Committee hearing on Tuesday, Stabenow said that she recently drove from Michigan to Washington, D.C., in her electric vehicle and didn’t have to think about gas prices once.

“I do have to say, just on the issue of gas prices, after waiting for a long time to have enough chips in this country to finally get my electric vehicle, I got it and drove it from Michigan to here this last weekend and went by every single gas station, and it didn’t matter how high it was,” she said.

Stabenow added that she is “looking forward to the opportunity for us to move to vehicles that aren’t going to be dependent on the whims of the oil companies and the international markets.”

Her remarks came as gas prices in the U.S. reached a new high of $4.91 per gallon on Tuesday, according to AAA, which is a 61-cent spike from the previous week.

Several other Democrats, including Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, have floated electric vehicles as “reasonable” alternatives to high gas prices – despite the fact that the average cost of an electric vehicle is more than $50,000.

Republicans blasted Stabenow, calling her out-of-touch.
