Maryland School Tries to Combine Math w/ Social Justice; GOP Candidate Fights Back

'In short - Maryland Health Curriculum has moved into Math and you cannot opt out of math. Dumbing down of our children continues...'

(Jacob Bruns, Headline USA) Towson University, a small school in the northern exurbs of Baltimore, Maryland, has merged the abstract and fact-based science of mathematics with woke social justice ideologies in a cutting edge academic decision, Just the News reported.

The administration’s to integrate LGBT ideology into math was made apparent to faculty at a recent training workshop, where they were instructed to sexually indoctrinate young adults instead of teaching them math.

The program, called Math4SocialJustice, is described as a “professional learning workshop that prepares participating teachers to engage their students in social-justice issues through four student-centered lessons that focus on topics including politics, identity, and community.”

The course is focused on forcing together two entirely different fields of study in order to help students be better activists.

“Over the course of five sessions, participants will engage in these lessons as learners, share ideas with colleagues, and reflect on their own learning,” said the event flyer. “Participants will leave the workshop with increased confidence in incorporating social justice issues into their classroom curriculum.”

It will also be available to teachers of children sixth through ninth grade, meaning that the curriculum and practices could be incorporated into the state’s public and private schools—and beyond.

According to Gordana Schifanelli, the state’s Republican candidate for lieutenant governor, the Math4SocialJustice workship violates the Code of Maryland Regulations (COMAR).

Schifanelli pointed specifically to two clauses from the state’s regulations.

COMAR section 2.e.i states: “The local school system shall establish policies, guidelines, and/or procedures for student opt-out regarding instruction related to family life and human sexuality objectives.”

And COMAR section 2.g adds: “When teaching concepts and skills related to family life and human sexuality, in addition to general teacher preparation, teachers are required to have additional preparation in content and teaching methods of such depth and duration as to be appropriate for the material taught. The additional preparation may be provided by college courses, local in-service programs, and/or State workshops.”
