(Tony Sifert, Headline USA) Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., has taken steps to partner with Democrats to engineer a “bipartisan” pact on gun control, giving rise in some circles to concerns that he might be readying once again to sell out conservatives.
McConnell sought out CNN and informed the leftist media organ that he had instructed Republican Sen. John Cornyn of Texas — Senate Majority Whip from 2013-2015 — to take a break from demanding more immigration and meet with Sens. Chris Murphy, D-Conn., and Kyrsten Sinema, D-Ariz., in order to “see if they can find a middle ground on legislation to respond to the tragic Texas elementary school shooting.”
“I met with Senator Cornyn this morning,” McConnell told CNN. “I have encouraged him to talk with Sen. Murphy and Sen. Sinema and others who are interested in trying to get an outcome that is directly related to the problem.”
“I am hopeful that we could come up with a bipartisan solution,” McConnell added.
Democrats were not so optimistic.
“I’ve been through this before,” Murphy said after meeting with Cornyn.
“I know sometimes Republicans are more interested in talking than doing, so if we can’t get some progress by the end of next week, then I’ll say to Sen. Schumer it’s time to take votes.”
Senate Majority Leader, Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., agreed, and warned the RINOs that Democrats wouldn’t wait forever.
“This is not an invite to negotiate indefinitely,” Schumer told CNN.
“Make no mistake about it, if these negotiations do not bear fruit in a short period of time, the Senate will vote on gun safety legislation.”
Cornyn has been working to move the GOP to the Left on guns for some time, according to the Texas Tribune.
Though he touts his A+ rating with the NRA, Cornyn “has a track record of moving small pieces of gun policy into law in the wake of mass murders,” the Tribune reported.
