(Headline USA) Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas admitted this week that he is “aligned” with immigrants more than with Congress or U.S. citizens on matters of immigration.
“I am, to a great extent, aligned with the expectations” of the immigrant community, he said during an address at the Aspen Institute on July 19.
Those expectations “match my ambitions for what we want to do” in the Biden administration, he added.
“They reflect, I think, the president’s ambitions for what our country needs and who we are,” Mayorkas continued.
Mayorkas also insisted that the southern border is “secure” despite the record-breaking number of illegal immigrants who have flooded into the country since President Joe Biden took office.
“Look, the border is secure,” Mayorkas said at the Aspen Institute. “We are working to make the border more secure. That has been a historic challenge.”
There is “work to be done,” he added, claiming that “safe and secure are two different words.”
Border Patrol officials blasted Mayorkas, calling him a liar.
“Hundreds of thousands crossing every month is not the definition of secure,” one agent told Fox News. “They are liars and anyone who believes them are fools.”
Another Border Patrol official accused Mayorkas of telling “boldface lies.”
“They’re using issues like poverty, crime and climate change as reasons for asylum but those do not meet the legal stand of the law,” the officer explained.
“Mayorkas, [Border Patrol Chief Raul] Ortiz and Biden are failures that do not have the support of agents and many command staff, they all have violated their ‘oath’ of office to defend the laws and Constitution and should be removed,” the officer added.
