(Jacob Bruns, Headline USA) Leftist Marc Elias, who has made a living as a partisan hack charading as a lawyer, cashed in on Democrat gerrymandering schemes in New York and Maryland, the Free Beacon reported.
Elias has long complained about gerrymandering, routinely accusing Republicans of such schemes. But now that gerrymandering aids his party and his pocketbook, he seems to have changed his mind.
Democratic groups paid Elias’ firm over $1 million last quarter, according to a Federal Elections Committee report.
Among Elias’s largest clients is the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC), which is leading efforts to redraw congressional districts in New York and Maryland.
With the 2022 midterms approaching, Democrats have doubled-down on winning elections by employing alternative strategies.
According to the report, the DCCC paid the Elias group $424,048 in December, the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee paid him $492,560, and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer’s, D-N.Y., Senate Majority PAC paid another $162,797.
New York’s proposed map have been called “heavily biased” in favor of Democrats and, if the NY legislature approves them, could virtually guarantee that the Democrats retain the majority in the House of Representatives next fall.
The proposed map would give Democrats control of approximately 80 percent of the state’s House seats with a mere 62% of the popular vote in the state.
It would also give Democrats a major advantage in New York’s state legislature.
Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney, D-N.Y., helped Elias redraw the maps to suit his party’s preferences. The leftist congressman has often praised the virtues of gerrymandering.
In 2020 he suggested that, since he believes Republicans have used gerrymandering to their advantage, he should use it as well.
“I believe in bringing a gun to a gunfight,” he said at the time.
Elias and the DCCC are currently working the same angles in Maryland in hopes that they can secure the state as a permanently leftist stronghold.
