(Jacob Bruns, Headline USA) Longtime West Virginia Democratic Sen. Joe Manchin trails three Republican candidates in early polls after he caved to the left’s Inflation Reduction Act earlier this year, the Parkersburg News and Sentinel reported.
The poll found that 66.1% of the 762 total poll respondents viewed Manchin unfavorably, with a mere 26.3% taking up a favorable view.
The remainder was “unsure” about Manchin, or did not view him favorably or unfavorably.
According to the poll, if the election were held today, Manchin, who is not up for reelection until 2024, would lose to a number of potential Republican candidates: previous opponent and Republican state Attorney General Patrick Morrisey, Senate President Craig Blair, and 2nd District Rep. Alex Mooney, as well as Gov. Jim Justice.
The poll was taken in late August, just over three weeks after Manchin helped pass the left’s $737 billion Inflation Reduction Act—a negotiation down from Biden’s original proposal of a $1.75 trillion Build Back Better spending bill.
The bill gives huge sums of cash to the federal bureaucracies, which will spend their money on clean energy, climate change, and healthcare, among many other things.
Manchin opposed Biden’s initial Build Back Better bill because he believed it would cause the national debt to balloon, and also increase inflation. But he quickly changed his tune after a few chats with Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y.
After dragging his feet for most of the past two years, Manchin finally caved over the summer to collude with radical Democrats, helping them ram their radical bill through the Senate.
Mooney unleashed a harsh attack on the longtime West Virginia senator last month.
“West Virginians know we are living in a harsh economic reality and Sen. Joe Manchin and his Democrat colleagues have just accelerated our nation’s inflation crisis during a recession,” Mooney said.
“Democrats in Congress continue to push tax increases and government spending that will only make the impact of inflation worse. I strongly oppose this legislation,” he added.
Mooney previously hinted in an exclusive interview with Headline USA that he was planning to challenge the senator in 2024 after winning his primary against a centrist GOP rival backed by Manchin.
