Leftist Anti-Trump Group Wants Apple to Deplatform Truth Social

'It is incumbent on all companies to choose not to support those who undermine democracy... '

(Jacob Bruns, Headline USA) A leftist government watch dog group has petitioned Apple to preemptively de-platform former President Donald Trump’s new social media platform Truth Social, the Federalist reported.

The radical group Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington penned a letter to Apple CEO Tim Cook slamming Trump and arguing that systematic action needs to be taken against him.

They began the letter by remarking on Trump’s attack on democracy.

“In light of former President Donald Trump’s history of undermining democracy and promoting violent extremism, his prior abuse of social media platforms to do so, and his apparent desire to continue doing so through the recently launched Truth Social platform, Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (“CREW”) urges you to remove the application from the Apple App Store,” they wrote.

Freedom of speech, they believe, is not essential to the success of liberal democracy. Rather, allowing people to dialogue online is an attack on democracy.

As a result, they demanded that Cook wield Apple as a political bludgeon to undermine Truth Social from the start.

“It is incumbent on all companies to choose not to support those who undermine democracy, and your company, in particular, is well placed to combat disinformation and protect democracy against imminent risk,” they continued.

The letter, which is four pages of repetitive angry scrawling about Donald Trump and Jan. 6, concluded with an exhortation for the Apple technocrats to save democracy.

“Fortunately, there is a strong precedent for taking action in response to security threats,” they wrote, citing the elite attempts to scrap Parler after Jan. 6.

This time, however, CREW demanded preemptive action.

“Today, Apple is once again positioned to set a positive example and to lead in corporate
responsibility” against “those who wish to harm democracy,” they concluded.
