Husband of Alec Baldwin Gun Violence Victim is Enraged, Disgusted

'The idea that the person holding the gun and causing it to discharge is not responsible is absurd to me... '

(Tony Sifert, Headline USA) The husband of the late cinematographer Halyna Hutchins, who was allegedly shot by actor Alec Baldwin in October while on a movie set, has expressed outrage at the way Baldwin has handled the question of his own responsibility in the aftermath of the shooting.

“The idea that the person holding the gun and causing it to discharge is not responsible is absurd to me,” Matt Hutchins told TODAY co-anchor Hoda Kotb during an interview.

Baldwin, in an interview last December, denied responsibility for Hutchins’ death.

“The trigger wasn’t pulled,” Baldwin said. “I didn’t pull the trigger.”

“I feel someone is responsible for what happened, but I know it isn’t me,” he continued. “I might have killed myself if I thought I was responsible, and I don’t say that lightly.”

Hutchins’ husband rejected Baldwin’s account.

“Watching him I just felt so angry,” Hutchins said. “I was just so angry to see him talk about her death so publicly in such a detailed way and then to not accept any responsibility after having just described killing her.”

Hutchins filed a lawsuit on Feb. 15 against Baldwin and others involved with the film.

The suit alleged that Baldwin in particular “violated numerous rules for the safe handling of firearms,” according to Variety.

“Alec Baldwin recklessly shot and killed Halyna Hutchins on the set of the movie Rust,” Hutchins’ lawyer alleged in the complaint.

“Defendant Baldwin and the other Defendants in this case failed to perform industry standard safety checks and follow basic gun safety rules while using real guns to produce the movie Rust, with fatal consequences,” the complaint continued.

Since Hutchins’ interview aired, Baldwin has been quoting the Buddha on social media in an apparent effort to accuse his accusers of telling lies.

“In the same way, Rahula, when anyone feels no shame in telling a deliberate lie, there is no evil, I tell you, they will not do,” Baldwin wrote. “Thus, Rahula, you should train yourself, ‘I will not tell a deliberate lie, even in jest.'”
