HARRIS: I Haven’t Visited Border Because It’s Not ‘Tangible’ Work

'I will be focused on that kind of work as opposed to grand gestures...'

Vice President Kamala Harris, who is overseeing the Biden administration’s response to the border crisis, claimed she hasn’t visited the southern border because she would rather focus on “tangible” work than “grand gestures.”

During her press conference in Guatemala on Monday, Harris said her only role is to address the root causes of immigration.

“I will be focused on that kind of work as opposed to grand gestures,” she said.

Republicans have criticized Harris for refusing to visit the southern border, where tens of thousands of illegal immigrants, many of them unaccompanied minors, are being held in poor conditions.

Harris’s team, however, has insisted that visiting the border is not part of her job.

“And I haven’t been to Europe,” Harris said in a follow-up interview after her press conference on Monday when asked why she hasn’t visited the border. “I don’t understand the point that you’re making.”

“I care about, listen, I care about what’s happening at the border,” Harris continued. “I’m in Guatemala because my focus is dealing with the root causes of migration. There may be some who think that that is not important, but it is my firm belief that if we care about what’s happening at the border, we better care about the root causes and address them. And so that’s what I’m doing.”

Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., slammed Harris back in March for refusing to face the consequences of the disastrous immigration policies her administration has passed.

“Here’s my message: President Biden and Vice President Harris, with all due respect, get off your a** and go to the border and look and see what you have caused by policies that will not work,” he said at the time. “Quit denying the obvious.”
