Garland’s Impeachment Inches Closer as Hunter Probe Interference Rattles GOP

'If the purpose of this obstruction was to protect Joe, these are serious allegations which in my view lead to impeachment proceedings of Garland & POTUS...'

(Luis CornelioHeadline USA) In a dramatic development on Capitol Hill, more Republican lawmakers are echoing the calls from Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, for impeachment proceedings against Attorney General Merrick Garland.

The House lawmakers accuse Garland of alleged political interference in the criminal probe of Hunter Biden, son of President Joe Biden, and assert that Garland may have committed multiple felonies.

“What’s becoming crystal clear is that the political brass at DOJ stonewalled & slow walked this investigation into Hunter,” said Rep. Byron Donalds, R-Fla., on Friday. “If the purpose of this obstruction was to protect Joe, these are serious allegations which in my view lead to impeachment proceedings of Garland & POTUS.”

Donalds’s remarks were echoed by House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Jason Smith, R-Mo., in a letter addressed to Garland. “IRS whistleblowers testified about repeated obstruction and political interference in the Hunter Biden investigation,” Smith said in a tweet Friday. “Today, I am calling on Attorney General Garland and US Attorney Weiss to share this information with the federal judge reviewing Hunter Biden’s plea agreement.”

The mounting pressure on Garland stems from revelations made by IRS whistleblower Gary Shapley, who disclosed that investigators had faced roadblocks in their attempts to pursue evidence implicating Hunter. Shapley also claimed that the DOJ had hindered Weiss from seeking prosecution outside of Delaware.

The lawmakers’ scathing comments also come a day after Sen. Cruz explicitly accused Garland of potentially having committed several felonies. Specifically, Cruz said, “If what the IRS whistleblowers are saying is true, then Merrick Garland is guilty of multiple felonies.”

Cruz went on to cite specific instances where he claims Garland lied under oath to Congress, particularly during questioning before the Senate Judiciary Committee, where Garland denied any political interference in the investigation.
