Gaetz Introduces Resolution to Censure Biased D.C. Judge Chutkan

'Justice may be blind, but the American people are not—we see Judge Chutkan for her actions, and we rebuke them in the greatest possible sense... '

(Abdul–Rahman Oladimeji Bello, Headline USA) Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Fla., recently initiated a resolution to censure, investigate and ultimately remove U.S.District Court Judge Tanya Chutkan from office for being openly biased in carrying out her official responsibilities.

Gaetz made this proposition against the district judge on claims that Chutkan shows “open bias and partisanship in her official duties on the bench,” the Epoch Times reported.

Chutkan, currently overseeing a case against former President Donald Trump for alleged conspiracy relating to his challenge of the 2020 election results, has also ruled over cases related to the Jan.6 Capitol protest. The Obama-appointed district judge known for her harsh prison sentences has already sentenced about 1,000 people for crimes relating to the Jan. 6 protest

“Judge Tanya Chutkan’s extreme sentencing of January 6th defendants, while openly supporting the violent Black Lives Matter riots of 2020, showcases a complete disregard for her duty of impartiality and the rule of law,” Gaetz said.

Chutkan never hid her “open partisanship” as she once lamented how Trump “remains free to this day” during a hearing related to the Capitol incident, Gaetz added.

“Such partisan commentary by Judge Chutkan has been ongoing and calls into question her fitness as a judge and … Chutkan’s comments and activities on and off the bench violate all five canons of the Code of Conduct for United States Judges,” Gaetz’s resolution proclaimed.

“Justice may be blind, but the American people are not—we see Judge Chutkan for her actions, and we rebuke them in the greatest possible sense.”

Gaetz proposed that Chutkan be censured and condemned from the House in his resolution. He also proposed that the House Committee on the Judiciary launch an investigation to find evidence proving that the House should remove her from office on impeachment or other misdemeanors.
