Fla. Democrats Walk Out of Confirmation Hearing For Black Surgeon General

'I told him, when you go in here, you are challenging sacred cows, of the corporate press, of some of the establishment people who have been wrong on a lot of stuff... '

(Gregg Pupecki, Headline USA) Democrat state senators questioning Florida’s Surgeon General Dr. Joseph Ladapo about his views on the pandemic all walked out of his confirmation hearing in protest.

During the Senate Committee on Health Policy to confirm Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis’s choice for State Surgeon General, the democrat senators decided to stage a walk out instead of staying and voting for the nomination, reported the Tampa Bay Times.

Democrats tried to pin Ladapo down demanding “yes or no” answers to complicated questions about COVID-19 vaccines and masks. And when they didn’t get want they wanted, they turned petty and partisan.

“What I hear is arrogance and polite avoidance,” said Democrat Sen. Janet Cruz. “So if you wouldn’t mind all of this fond rhetoric that you are applying, can we just get straight answers so that more people can hear more information.”

Ladapo responded by saying “yes or no questions are not that easy to find in science.”

“The most commonly used vaccines in the United States,” he said, “which would be the Pfizer product and the product that was developed by Moderna, have been shown to have relatively high effectiveness for the prevention of hospitalization and death, and over time, relatively low protection from infection.”

Following the questioning, the democrats walked out saying they didn’t feel that they were  getting any answers.  The Republicans on the committee then quickly voted and advanced Ladapo’s nomination.

Gov. DeSantis responded to the hearing stunt by saying, “Dr. Ladapo is a superstar.”

“I told him, when you go in here, you are challenging sacred cows, of the corporate press, of some of the establishment people who have been wrong on a lot of stuff,” DeSantis said. “And they’re going to fire at you. And he’s like, ‘You know what? That’s all good.’”

The nomination will now move onto an additional Committee hearing, then a full vote in the state senate.
