Fauci Says More Lockdowns & Vax Mandates for Air Travel ‘On the Table’

'Well, we certainly have the potential to go into a fifth wave...'

Dr. Anthony Fauci, who directs the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, warned Americans on Sunday to “prepare for the worst” in response to the so-called omicron variant of COVID-19.

“You want to be prepared to do anything and everything,” he said, according to Reuters.

When NBC News Host Chuck Todd asked Fauci if the federal government should impose vaccine mandates on all Americans who use domestic air travel, he said that “everything is discussed and everything is on the table,” Todd Starnes reported.

“You know, Chuck, I’m not going to make any pronouncements about what we should have about vaccine mandates for travel,” Fauci said. “We know that we evaluate these things, literally, in real time all the time.

Fauci refused to rule out future lockdowns, which could once again shutter businesses, schools, and churches.

On “This Week” with ABC News Host George Stephanopoulos, Fauci said that “it’s really to early to say” whether the federal government will impose further mandates and shutdowns on the American people.

Fauci also appeared Sunday on “Face the Nation” with Margaret Brennan, who asked him if the omicron variant is the “fifth wave” of COVID-19.

“Well, we certainly have the potential to go into a fifth wave,” he said.

To avert a fifth wave, he said, all Americans who have either not received the shots or not taken a booster shot in more than six months will have to submit to more experimental injections.

“We have now about 62 million people in the country who are eligible to be vaccinated, who have not yet gotten vaccinated,” Fauci said. “Superimpose upon that, the fact that, unquestionably, the people who got vaccinated six, seven, eight, nine, 10 months ago, we’re starting to see an understandable diminution in the level of immunity.”
