Fairfax School Board Candidates Resign after Allegedly Laughing at Autistic Child Singing Anthem

'I was mistaken and my laughter was inappropriate... '

(Jacob Bruns, Headline USA) Two candidates for the school board in Fairfax County, Virginia, have dropped out of the race after they were caught on camera laughing as an autistic child tried to sing the national anthem, the Washington Times reported.

The school district, one of the country’s largest and most affluent, has long been under scrutiny like neighboring Loudoun County due to its woke policies and was even considered the prototype for how subversive activist groups, some of them funded by billionaire oligarch George Soros, might use the bureaucracy to undermine the will of voters.

The candidates, Stephanie Lundquist–Arora and Harry Jackson, both resigned from the campaign after their laughter sparked a great deal of backlask when the video circulated around the internet.

Both of the embattled candidates were considered to be among those supported by the GOP as it hopes to reclaim the school district, which went fully woke prior to the 2020 coronavirus shutdowns.

At the beginning of the school board meeting, which was conducted partially online, the two candidates can be seen laughing as the autistic teenager finishes his performance of the national anthem.

“Did that just happen?” Jackson asks, adding later, “I was still processing what we just experienced.”

Lundquist–Arora and Jackson both apologized later for their laughter, suggesting that they feel bad for the singer and his family.

“I was mistaken and my laughter was inappropriate,” said Lundquist–Arora.

Jackson said he was “sorry to the singer and his family for my response.”

Virginia schools have been central to recent disputes surrounding both COVID lockdowns, and more recently, resistance to woke and transgender ideology.

Of course, the city, like many American cities, is under attack from all sides by leftists in academia and the bureaucracy.

Late last year, for example, in an aggressive display of demoralization, a Fairfax County, Virginia, public library set up a book display featuring two notoriously obscene, pedophilia-supporting books next to the Bible.

The display included the books Gender Queer, Lawn Boy and also quotations from Salman Rushdie’s infamous book, The Satanic Verses.

When asked about the display, the Fairfax County Public Library Director Jessica Hudson said that she cares about intellectual freedom, which seems to mean giving children access to anything ever written, no matter how vulgar or destructive.

“It was not the intention of staff to create a display that could be construed as offensive. The display has been removed.”
