Ex-Girlfriend Says Libertarian Billionaire John McAfee Faked Death, Is Living in Texas

'She says it, then she looks at the camera, and I can't work out whether she thinks it's real or not... '

(Jacob Bruns, Headline USA) According to his girlfriend, anti-surveillance state activist and tech mogul John McAfee faked his death in 2021, and is still alive, living in rural Texas.

In June of 2021 it was widely circulated that McAfee had hanged himself in a Spanish jail cell while awaiting extradition to the United States on charges of financial fraud related to his cryptocurrency promotions.

But now his ex-girlfriend, Samantha Herrera, has suggested that the former anti-virus software pioneer has moved to Texas and is still alive, the New York Post reported.

Herrera made the revelations in a soon-to-release Netflix documentary called Running With the Devil: The Wild World of John McAfee.

“I don’t know if I should say, but two weeks ago, after his death, I got a call from Texas: ‘It’s me, John. I paid off people to pretend that I am dead, but I am not dead,’” she said.

Per Herrera, she lived with McAfee in San Pedro, Belize, and they were planning to get married until the death of his neighbor under suspicious circumstances sent them elsewhere. Their wanderings culminated with his imprisonment in a Spanish jail.

He also apparently told her that “there are only three persons in this world that know I’m still alive,” begging her to run away with him.

The documentary’s director, Charlie Russell, said that he was not sure what to think about Herrera’s comment, and that he believes that she also is not sure.

“She says it, then she looks at the camera, and I can’t work out whether she thinks it’s real or not,” he said.

McAfee has long been suspicious of the federal government and its intelligence agencies.

He was infamously skeptical about the alleged suicide of Jeffrey Epstein in a New York prison, and hedged against a potential targeting of him by suggesting that he had a mechanism in place to unload state secrets should any harm befall him.

Many have doubted the trustworthiness of reports of McAfee’s death from the start.

In an informal poll, Donald Trump Jr. found that over 90% of Americans believed that McAfee did not kill himself.

Soon after McAfee’s suspicious “suicide,” President Joe Biden asserted that the United States must ensure that pro-Trump dissidents are “reprogrammed.”
