Even Bill Clinton Wants Illegals, Venezuelans Out of Taxpayer Shelters

(Luis Cornelio, Headline USA) Former President Bill Clinton has added his voice to the growing chorus of Democrats calling for changes to New York City’s taxpayer-funded “Right to Shelter” law, citing the unprecedented influx of illegal aliens, primarily from Venezuela. 

Speaking to radio host John Catsimatidis, Clinton expressed his concerns about the current state of the law and its implications for New York City. 

“Gov. [Kathy] Hochul thinks it should be modified, and it probably should under the circumstances,” Clinton told host Catsimatidis. “It’s broken. We need to fix it… It doesn’t make any sense.”

During the interview, Catsimatidis raised concerns about the need for vetting individuals freely crossing the border, to which Clinton responded, “I agree with that.” He then blamed the influx of Venezuelan immigrants as a major factor in the current chaos surrounding the “Right to Shelter” law.

“The real problem with that now in the emergency that it is not the people that were sent up here from Florida and Texas by in large, it is the huge numbers of Venezuelans who showed up because of the collapse of the Venezuelan economy,” Clinton added.

The issue of illegal immigrants residing in taxpayer-funded hotel rooms came to a boiling point when New York City Mayor Eric Adams, a Democrat, started evicting illegal aliens. 

In the interview, Clinton revealed that he has been offering advice to Adams. The mayor, echoing Clinton’s remarks, expressed concerns about the unprecedented number of illegals flooding the city, warning that they will “destroy” NYC.

New York Gov. Hochul has also weighed in, asserting that the “Right to Shelter” law was never intended to accommodate illegal aliens. 

“Never was it envisioned that this would be an unlimited universal right or obligation on the city to have to house literally [the] entire world,” Hochul said, emphasizing the need for limits. 

 “We want to make sure that no families end up on the streets. We don’t want anything to happen to our children, but we also have to let the world know that there have to be limits to this.”  

During an interview with CBS News’ Face the Nation, she reiterated her concerns about the influx of immigrants from all over the world, many of whom falsely claim asylum, overwhelming New York City’s resources.

“We want them to have a limit on who can come across the border. It is too open right now,” Hochul told host Margaret Brennan. “People coming from all over the world are finding that I way through simply saying they need asylum and the majority of them seem to be ending up in the streets of New York and that is a problem for New York City. 125,000 newly arrived individuals.”
