Down-Ballot Races Foretell a MAGA Reckoning for Squishy GOP Incumbents

Many more primary races this cycle are likely going to keep GOP insiders up at night...

(John McCannHeadline USA) As the spring season slowly gives way to summer, the heat has continued to rise in party primary races across the country. From Georgia to Idaho, GOP and Democrat incumbents have faced serious challenges from grassroots alternatives.

Republican incumbents, in particular, have been forced to look frantically over their right shoulders.

Last Tuesday, the state of Idaho went to the polls to choose their favored standard bearers. While Gov. Brad Little fended off a challenge from Trump-endorsed Lt. Gov. Janice McGeachin, many of his allies were not so lucky.

As Daniel Horowitz of the Blaze reported, 20 incumbent state legislators, 11 senators and nine House members were defeated by grassroots insurgents. While Idaho has long since been a GOP stronghold, many Democrats and moderates, connected to “woke” special interests, have run as Republicans in order to infiltrate the legislature and executive positions.

This complete reshaping of the legislature was simply astounding. Thirteen of the 28 Republicans in the state Senate did not stand for re-election and of the 15 who did, nine were successfully ousted. Senate President Pro Tempore Chuck Winder, who barely survived his race, will now see his leadership threatened by a radically different caucus. These conservative successes were not limited to the Statehouse.

Former conservative congressman Raul Labrador trounced a five-term Attorney General, while the Secretary of State was lucky to survive his race. These victories, largely credited to the Idaho Freedom PAC, have raised the morale of conservatives across the country as activists seek to build conservative majorities across the land.

Conservatives in Kentucky and Pennsylvania also scored significant wins against the GOP establishment, most notably in the Pennsylvania gubernatorial primary. State Senator Doug Mastriano scored an impressive win, much to the chagrin of party powerbrokers.

Many more primary races this cycle are likely going to keep GOP insiders up at night, as anger from the Republican base has continued to boil over. The list of deposed incumbents at all levels of government is assuredly going to rise as the summer months commence.
