DOJ Reduces Sentence for Murderous Arsonist ‘Caught Up in the Fury’ of BLM Riots

'Mr. Lee credibly states that he was in the streets to protest unlawful police violence against black men, and there is no basis to disbelieve this statement... '

(John RansomHeadline USA) A New York man, BLM activist Montez Terriel Lee Jr., is facing just 10 years in prison after burning down a pawn shop and killing Oscar Lee Stewart Jr., 30, a native of Jackson, Mississippi, who was burned to death after succumbing to fumes from the accelerant used to start the blaze, reported KSTP in Minneapolis.

The sentence recommendation from the prosecutor was reduced from the what the Post Millennial said could have been a maximum 20-year sentence.

“Judge Wilhelmina M. Wright, the judge presiding over the case who granted a variance from sentencing guidance which outlined 235 to 240 months, handed down Lee’s prison sentence in US District Court in St. Paul,” the Post Millennial reported.

The US. Attorney office under President Joe Biden said in a sentencing memo that the office was recommending less than the maximum sentence for Lee, 26, of Rochester, New York, because he was at least demonstrating for a good cause.

“Mr. Lee’s motive for setting the fire is a foremost issue,” said the sentencing memo according to the Clarion News. “Mr. Lee credibly states that he was in the streets to protest unlawful police violence against black men, and there is no basis to disbelieve this statement.”

But the evidence from the trial was much more chilling.

Video of a man later identified as Lee shows him “pouring liquid from a metal container throughout the pawn shop. A second video shows Lee standing in front of the burning pawn shop and Lee can be heard saying, ‘[expletive] this place. We’re gonna burn this [expletive] down,’” according to a press release by the Department of Justice.

The family of the murdered man, Oscar Lee Stewart, was forced to start a Go Fund Me page in order to get his remains back to his native Mississippi for burial. Stewart had moved to Minneapolis in 2011.

“He worked at All Metro Fence Company after graduating from Wingfield High School,” said the Clarion Ledger, adding: “He was married and had five kids.”

A table of Jan. 6 rioters by Politico show that several rioters convicted of lesser crimes like assault on Capitol police with fire extinguisher propellent and poles have been given up to 3-5 years in jail, by contrast.
