(Jacob Bruns, Headline USA) It turns out that President Joe Biden’s partisan Department of Justice, led by Attorney General Merrick Garland, has been targeting pro-life activists, justifying the action as the rule of law.
The announcement was made by Associate Attorney General Vanita Gupta at the DOJ’s Civil Rights Division’s 65th Anniversary earlier this month, the Daily Signal reported.
According to Gupta, the overturning of Roe v. Wade constitutes a “devastating blow to women throughout the country” that took away “the constitutional right to abortion” and increased “the urgency” of the DOJ’s work.
In her view, the DOJ must increase “enforcement of the FACE Act, to ensure continued lawful access to reproductive services.”
Gupta was alluding to the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances Act, which is enforced by the Civil Rights Division of the DOJ. According to the Act, it grants the DOJ the power to prohibit “threats of force, obstruction and property damage intended to interfere with reproductive health care services.”
Though it is supposed to equally protect churches and pregnancy centers, the FACE Act has been used at length by the DOJ only to stop pro-lifers from protesting outside abortion clinics.
Meanwhile, at least 98 Catholic Churches and 77 pregnancy resource centers have been attacked since the Dobbs decision was leaked last May.
Eager to speak to other pieties of the regime, Gupta was sure to emphasize the government’s success in spending tax dollars for mass-scale grooming projects.
“You fought — and you continue to fight — for same-sex marriage, including through the government’s amicus brief in Obergefell v. Hodges, in which the Supreme Court recognized that the Constitution guarantees all people ‘equal dignity in the eyes of the law.'”
The DOJ’s Civil Rights Division was created by the 1964 Civil Rights Act, which has been used by the federal bureaucracy to overturn the freedom of association guaranteed to Americans by the U.S. Constitution.
By interpreting the Act’s language liberally, the Left has widened the meaning of the words in it so far that they can justify intervention into private life on almost any grounds.
