DNC Cuts Ties with Steele Dossier Lawyer

(Molly Bruns, Headline USA) The Democratic National Committee has cut ties with Marc Elias, an election lawyer known for falsifying the Steele dossier in an attempt to frame former President Donald Trump in treasonous ties to Russia.

According to the Daily Caller, the official reason for the separation was “strategic differences,” though sources familiar with the matter did not elaborate.

Elias started working with the party in 2009, and recently made $2 million for his work in the 2022 election season.

“The DNC works with a number of law firms on voting rights litigation, compliance, contracting and more,” said a DNC spokesperson in a statement. “The DNC is appreciative of Elias Law Group’s years of work in service of the values we share.”

Opposition lawyers discovered that Elias hired research firm Fusion GPS to doctor a dossier of Trump as part of a smear campaign when he was first running for president in 2016. At the time, Elias worked for the DNC and failed candidate Hillary Clinton’s campaign.

British intelligence officer Christopher Steele authored the report, which became a key piece of evidence in Special Counsel Robert Muller’s investigation into Trump’s alleged Russian collusion. Both the dossier and the idea of Trump conspiring with the Russians were debunked.

The Clinton campaign received a fine from the Federal Election Commission for mis-filing the dossier as a legal expense instead of as opposition research. Elias receieved no fine or punishment for his malfeasance.

His law firm, the Elias Law Group, is still on retainer with the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, Democratic Attorneys General Association and other organizations associated with the blue party.

“Elias Law Group is proud of the work it has done for the DNC,” the statement from the DNC said. “We look forward to continuing to represent the Democratic Party as well as helping citizens vote, and progressives make change.”
