(Jacob Bruns, Headline USA) Despite the increasing wokeness put on display by the National Football League on a daily basis, teams are still holding cities hostage by forcing them to purchase new and fancier stadiums at a record clip.
According to economist J.C. Bradbury of Kennesaw State University in Georgia, teams are switching from owner-funded models to city-funded models, imitating the Los Angeles Rams, who charged the city $5 billion to build a new stadium for the team, Just the News reported.
Bradbury also noted that other leagues were following suit in order to coerce cities into giving them new stadiums.
“The fourth wave of stadium construction is upon us,” Bradbury said. “And it’s going to be building over the next few years and peaking at around 2030.
“That’s not just the NFL, that’s all the big sports leagues.”
Other teams are going the cheaper route, simply looting their cities for hundreds of millions of dollars to secure expensive stadium upgrades.
Michael Farren, a senior research fellow at George Mason’s Mercatus Center, suggested that NFL teams are also finding ways to secure subsidies for themselves via the state
“The Buffalo Bills are getting extravagant subsidies,” he said.
“They were going to get the biggest NFL subsidies ever. For about one week they held that title. … If the Senate version had gone through, Virginia would have been the new champion of overpaying for stadium subsidies.”
All of this money is being poured into NFL teams as they subsequently ignore the desire of Americans to escape the woke madness.
Last week, Washington Commanders defensive coordinator Jack Del Rio, for example, suggested that the Jan. 6 rally was simply a rally, especially compared to the BLM riots of 2020. As a result, he was fined $100,000 and forced to apologize.
“It’s kind of hard for me to say I can realistically look at it, I see the images on TV, people’s livelihoods are being destroyed, business are being burned down. No problem,” Del Rio said.
“And then we have a dust up at the Capitol where nothing burned down and we’re going to make that a major deal. I just think that there’s kind of two standards.”
The Carolina Panthers also recently announced that their cheerleading squad will include the first transgender NFL cheerleader, ensuring that no American watching football is safe from woke leftist propaganda.
