DeSantis, Axios Blame Trump For GOP’s ‘Losing Streak’

(Abdul–Rahman Oladimeji Bello, Headline USA) Florida Governor Ron DeSantis blamed former president Donald Trump for a losing streak he says the GOP has endured in recent years.

DeSantis made the bold proclamation at the Midland County Republican Party’s annual Dave Camp Spring Breakfast at the Great Hall Banquet Center. Over 600 people were reportedly at the event, according to the Daily Wire.

“In this endeavor, there is no substitute for victory,” DeSantis said. “And what I see around the country with Republicans is, they’ve started to develop a culture of losing.”

DeSantis gave numerous examples of the GOP not doing enough, highlighting a Democrat candidate winning an essential seat on the Wisconsin Supreme Court.

An article posted by Axios on Friday also supported DeSantis’s claim about the GOP losing streak. Though the piece noted that the election disaster started before Trump came into the picture. It also argued that the losses got worse with the former president.

“Trump is driving an agenda dominated by vengeance and victimhood, diverting Republicans from the inflation- and crime-centered messages that helped them in the midterms,” the editorial board noted.

Axios also noted in a “Reality check” that, “Trump, if anything, is stronger and more likely to win the GOP nomination than he was after the November midterms.”

“In Florida, we have a culture of winning, we have a culture of execution, and we have a culture of delivering results,” DeSantis declared. “And you need to be able to win. It’s not easy. When you stand for the right things in this day and age, man, you are going to have a lot of blowback. Leadership isn’t cost free.”

“You got to have the courage of your convictions,” DeSantis continued. “And you got to understand that whether it’s a governor, whether it’s a mother going into a school board meeting to protest some of the insanity, they’re gonna come at you, and you’re gonna have to make some sacrifices.”

In the wake of DeSantis’s speech, Trump posted the latest Ipsos/Reuters poll on the 2024 Republican primary.
