(Jacob Bruns, Headline USA) As President Joe Biden’s incompetence is reluctantly recognized by the mainstream media, some on the Left have begun calling for the president to hand off his job to younger, more capable hands, Slay News reported.
Most recently, Rep. Dean Phillips, D-Minn., called for Biden to step aside and “pass the torch” to someone else.
That may make the vulnerable Gopher State lawmaker the first Democrat in Congress to officially back the embattled president’s resignation as Biden’s ties to foreign influence-peddling, bribery, corruption and a litany of other scandals grow harder to defend—along with his advanced age, frequent gaffes and declining physical and cognitive well-being.
Phillips made his comments in a recent appearance on NBC’s Meet the Press.
According to the congressman, Americans want to move on from the Trump–Biden conflict, which seems increasingly likely to play out again in 2024.
Most Americans are ready “to move on,” despite the fact that Biden is “a wonderful and remarkable man” with an “extraordinary legacy,” Phillips claimed.
“You don’t want him to run for reelection?” Meet the Press host Chuck Todd followed up.
Phillips confirmed in late July that he has been approached by Democrat donors urging him to wage a primary challenge.
But with many leftists circling the wagon around their addled leader, for fear of re-election former President Donald Trump, those within their party who have floated the possibility of a serious challenge have often been vilified worse than Republicans themselves.
Political scion Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and centrist Sen. Joe Manchin of West Virginia are among those facing the threat of lawfare and smear attacks over their refusal to step in line with the demands of the Democratic National Committee.
It remains to be scene whether Dean’s viability as a primary contender could help create the cascade effect needed for others in the party to follow suit in abandoning Biden.
“I believe what’s in the best interest of the country—and by the way, this is not how everybody thinks, but I do believe the majority wants to move on,” he told Todd, adding that he spoke with “normal Americans every day.”
Dean denied that Biden’s age could be a problem for some people, suggesting that it was more about his leadership—or lack thereof.
“This is about how people feel,” he said.
“It’s about how people feel—people want to turn the page, I think that’s fair to say,” he continued. “As a Democrat, I adore Joe Biden. He saved this country.”
Phillips also pushed aside the recent evidence presented against Biden’s son, Hunter Biden, saying, incorrectly, that there is no evidence of corruption in the Biden administration.
The congressman has been making media rounds for nearly a year now arguing that Biden needs to leave office after this term.
For instance, last September he told the media that, though Biden is “a man of decency, of good principle, of compassion, of empathy, and of strength,” the country would be “well-served by a new generation of compelling, well-prepared, dynamic Democrats who step up.”
