Could Newsom Appoint Kamala to Senate, then Take Her Spot?

'Kamala Harris to the Senate. Gavin Newsom to Vice Pres. Biden / Newsom ticket 2024...'

(Luis CornelioHeadline USA) As California Gov. Gavin Newsom faces mounting pressure to name the late Sen. Dianne Feinstein’s replacement, speculation often runs rampant about who would be chosen.

Newsom’s promise to appoint a black woman to the position has many pointing to Vice President Kamala Harris as a likely choice, following Feinstein’s passing on Friday.

Commentators are pointing to the potential domino effect that this appointment could trigger, with many arguing it would open the door for a Newsom role ahead of the 2024 presidential election.

Texas Rep. Matt Schaefer, a Republican, was one of the first to raise the intriguing possibility on Twitter, stating, “Kamala Harris to the Senate. Gavin Newsom to Vice Pres. Biden / Newsom ticket 2024.”

Twitter user Vince Langman chimed in, echoing similar remarks. “I wouldn’t be surprised if Kamala Harris is given Dianne Feinsteins Senate seat, and Gavin Newsom becomes VP,” he said also on Twitter.

This scenario, Langman alleged “would open the door to kicking Crooked Joe to the curb before the 2024 election which would make Gavin Newsom the Democrat nominee next year.”

While President Joe Biden has consistently affirmed his commitment to keeping Harris as his running mate despite scathing low polls, some influential donors have reportedly advocated for her ousting. Biden even made a joke, suggesting that Dr. Anthony Fauci could fill her shoes.

Notably, this would not mark the first time the Biden White House faces the shadow of being replaced. At 81 years old, Biden himself has grappled with rumors that the Democratic Party could implant former First Lady Michelle Obama as the nominee for 2024.

Similarly, Newsom has been mentioned as a potential replacement. Fox News host Sean Hannity recently questioned Newsom about his presidential aspirations during post-GOP debate coverage on Wednesday.

“Yes or no, will you ever, ever accept the Democratic nomination to run for president in 2024 under any circumstances at all? That’s a yes or no,” Hannity asked Newsom. Newsom responded with a resounding “no,” claiming he is throwing his support behind Biden.

Democratic Reps. Adam Schiff, Katie Porter and Barbara Lee are among the most prominent Democrats running for the California senate seat in 2024. Newsom has long pledged to appoint somebody outside the race.

“I don’t want to get involved in the primary,” Newsom told a liberal show on NBC News.
