CNN Forced to Correct ‘Squad’ Rep. After She Claims Border is ‘Secure’

'If you have people crossing the border, it’s just by definition not secure...'

(Headline USA) Even CNN was forced to push back on a claim from “Squad” Rep. Ayanna Pressley, D-Mass., claim this week that the southern border was “secure.”

During an interview with CNN’s Jake Tapper on Wednesday, Pressley insisted that the Biden administration had the situation at the border under control, even as she acknowledged that tens of thousands of migrants were being apprehended crossing illegally every week.

“No doubt about it, our border is secure, and we are in the midst of a humanitarian crisis, and we have to fix a broken system,” Pressley said, before being interrupted by Tapper.

“You think the border is secure?” Tapper asked. “Or is it not secure?”

Pressley tried to dodge the question, saying America is “in the midst of a humanitarian crisis,” but Tapper continued to press her.

“But just to get some clarity on this, and sure it is a conversation for another day, but do you think that the border is secure? Is that what you said?” he asked.

Pressley reiterated: “Yes, the border is secure. And we’re in the midst of a humanitarian crisis that has been created by a broken system.”

Tapper pointed out that “millions of undocumented migrants” are “coming into the country.”

“I’m not disagreeing with anything you’re saying, except for the idea that the border is secure. If you have people crossing the border, it’s just by definition not secure,” Tapper said.

Tapper went on to say Pressley is refusing “to acknowledge reality.”

But Pressley dodged the question again, arguing that “asylum is a human right.”

The Biden administration has similarly tried to portray the border as secure despite video footage showing thousands of migrants streaming into the country and into overwhelmed border towns.

“The president has done more to secure the border and to deal with the issue of immigration than anybody else. He really has,” White House press secretary Karine Jean–Pierre claimed last week.
