(Chris Parker, Headline USA) A analyst with CNN claimed that Biden should allow illegal border crossings to continue in honor of the Texas shootings, despite the many violent crimes that illegal immigrants perpetuate daily in the US.
Juliette Kayyem, who served as assistant secretary for Homeland Security under Obama before getting hired as a CNN analyst, said, “the most important thing for the federal government to do right now is to say there will be no immigration enforcement during this period in that area” after the shooting.
She insinuated that with “a strong police presence (and) a strong federal presence” community members may not come forward: “if their status is unknown (they) do not react to police presence as you or I may.”
However, her suggestion covers not only those coming forward with details about the mass shooting, but also those actively crossing the border illegally, reported Big League Politics.
Kayyem’s call comes at a time when illegal border crossings are nearing records. Chief Border Patrol Agent Jason D. Owens recently posted a video on Twitter explaining the staggering increase of illegal immigration and other crimes occurring at the US/Mexico border. Among them were 29 smuggling loads and several large groups that each exceeded 100 illegal immigrants.
Federal arrest numbers based on citizenship status reveal that during the 20-year period from 1998 to 2018, ‘non-citizen’ federal arrests rose from 37% to 64%. And they included more than just immigration arrests. A quarter of federal property arrests were of non-citizens. The Justice Department posted similar arrest rates for crimes related to drugs and fraud.
Kayyem continued by calling on the US government to “ say right now, everyone is essentially safe harbor right now in terms of immigration status.” She also condemned the “politics” in Texas right now surrounding illegal immigration.
Illegal immigration has been taking a toll on the citizens and resources of Texas after Biden instituted lax border policies, but that apparently hasn’t stopped leftist activist from pushing for continued open borders.
