Chicago Mayor: Police for Me, Not for Thee

'While murders are soaring, while districts are barebones for manpower, all that matters is protecting her castle... '

(Tony Sifert, Headline USA) Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot, who once proposed cutting the Chicago Police Department’s funding by $80 million, is protected by a special CPD unit made up of 71 policeman.

The “Government Security Detail” includes 65 officers, five sergeants, and one lieutenant — and does not include the nearly 20 officers assigned to her “separate personal bodyguard detail,” the Chicago Sun–Times reported.

The detail was created in July, 2020, when the department sent a memo to officers with more than five years experience, asking them to apply to United 544.

“The unit’s mission will be to provide physical security for City Hall, the mayor’s residence and the mayor’s detail command post,” the memo said.

“Through the coordination of intelligence and resources, officers will respond to all threats related to the mayor’s physical properties to ensure its protection.”

When questioned about the detail, Lightfoot took a page from Jussie Smollett‘s fantasy script and blamed former President Donald Trump.

“When the president of the United States uses the world’s largest megaphone and platform to target you personally, terrible things happen,” Lightfoot told the Sun– Times. “And he not only blew a dog whistle, he pointed really evil and dangerous people right at my doorstep.”

In other words, to quote the convicted race-crime fabulist, “this is MAGA country!”

John Catanzara, president of Chicago’s Fraternal Order of Police, criticized Lightfoot for wasting police resources as crime skyrockets in Chicago.

“While murders are soaring, while districts are barebones for manpower, all that matters is protecting her castle,” Cantanzara said.

Lightfoot presided over a 55.24% increase in homicides in Chicago between 2019 and 2020, from 496 to 770, according to an annual report issued by the Chicago PD in January 2021.

In 2022, Chicago is on pace for nearly 800 murders and “has also seen a 31% increase in overall property crime,” according to WTTW.

Fox News contributor Leo Terrell criticized Lightfoot on “Fox & Friends” Tuesday.

“The Democratic elite . . . they love security when it comes to them,” Terrell said. “But as far as the average citizen, Black-on-Black crime — what goes up?”
