Political commentator Matthew Dowd, who once served as former president George W. Bush’s top strategist, announced this week that he is running for lieutenant governor of Texas as a Democrat.
Dowd recently worked as a political analyst for ABC News and advised Bush’s 2000 and 2004 presidential campaigns.
He claimed this week that he is entering the political arena again as a Democrat instead of a Republican because he is disenchanted by the “cruel” GOP and its loyalty to former president Donald Trump.
Sisters/brothers, I am running for Lt. Gov of Texas. We must remove the cruel and craven GOP incumbent. I can’t do this alone. I need your help. We are up against large sums of money. I hope you will contribute. https://t.co/O0FiIe1HlQ pic.twitter.com/jfCj3fW8bN

Trump defeated President Joe Biden in Texas during the 2020 presidential election with more than a 6% margin.
He also made significant gains among Texas’s Hispanic population in border counties that had voted Democrat for decades.
Conservatives argued Dowd’s campaign will be just as big of a failure as Beto O’Rourke’s Senate flop:
Matthew Dowd is bad at politics, debating, making intelligent statements, and just about everything else it takes to be a good candidate.
So yes he’s perfect to run alongside Beto O’Rourke. pic.twitter.com/7GneBIpAbB

Weirdo MATTHEW DOWD must IMMEDIATELY withdraw from the Texas Lt Governor race to give non-Christian people of Color room to Lead! (I’m sure his article was a HIT when he worked at the FAKE NEWS. But it could DOOM his “political dreams” pic.twitter.com/I5CvSvHWMO
