Former U.S. Attorney Says FBI, David Weiss Hindered Hunter Biden Investigation

'At one point, the communication between our offices was so constricted that we had to provide written questions to the investigative team in Delaware...'

(Headline USAFormer U.S. Attorney Scott Brady testified this week that the FBI prevented him from investigating Hunter Biden’s work for Ukrainian oil company Burisma.

Brady, who served as the Justice Department’s top federal prosecutor in Pittsburgh from 2017 to 2021, told House Judiciary Committee members during a closed-door hearing on Monday that FBI leadership and special counsel David Weiss deliberately slow-walked any attempt to look into Hunter Biden’s financial dealings.

Brady said he was tasked with “looking into allegations of Ukrainian corruption broadly,” as well as “anything that intersected with Hunter Biden and his role in Burisma.”

“I think there was reluctance on the part of the FBI to really do any tasking related to our assignment,” he told lawmakers. “There was a larger group at the FBI, including FBI headquarters, that had eyes on what was happening and which required signoff for any investigative steps that FBI Pittsburgh was asked to take by us.”

In one instance, Brady said “17 different people” at FBI headquarters had to approve an assignment for his investigation—a requirement he had “never” seen “in my career,” Brady added.

Weiss, the U.S. attorney for Delaware who was appointed as special counsel to investigate Hunter Biden by Attorney General Merrick Garland, was also reluctant, Brady said.

In fact, Brady said his former bosses, Principal Associate Deputy Attorney General Seth DuCharme and Deputy Attorney General Jeffrey Rosen, had to force Weiss to cooperate with the Pittsburgh office in their investigation.

“[A]t one point, the communication between our offices was so constricted that we had to provide written questions to the investigative team in Delaware, almost in the form of interrogatories, and receive written answers back,” Brady said.

The testimony comes just days after Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, revealed that the FBI sat on dozens of tips from more than 40 informants about the Biden family’s alleged influence peddling scheme.
