Biden Exec. Order Aims to Ban ‘Conversion Therapy’ for Trans Youth

'They will send a powerful signal from the president to LGBTQI+ kids across the country who are feeling scared... '

(Headline USA) President Joe Biden issued a sweeping executive order this week on a number of LGBT initiatives, including a ban on “conversion therapy” for transgender minors.

Biden’s order requires the Department of Health and Human Services to clarify that federally-funded therapeutic and medical practices cannot endorse “conversion therapy” for LGBT children and adolescents. It also orders the Federal Trade Commission to consider whether “conversion therapy” constitutes an unfair or deceptive act or practice and issue consumer warnings along those lines.

The HHS will also promote access to “gender-affirming care,” or chemical and medical transition treatments, such as puberty blockers.

Conservatives pointed out that the real “conversion therapy” is so-called “gender-affirming care,” which tries to convince children and adolescents that they can change genders.

Biden accused Republicans of “bullying” transgender youth by passing laws preventing medical professionals from performing experimental medical transition procedures on minors, blaming them for increased rates of suicide among transgenders.

“President Biden always stands up to bullies,” a senior administration official said on Wednesday.

“These are important new actions that will improve the health, safety, and wellbeing of countless families across the country. They will send a powerful signal from the president to LGBTQI+ kids across the country who are feeling scared.”

The executive order also allows the homeless to seek shelters consistent with their “gender identity,” and reverses former President Donald Trump’s ban on transgender service members in the military.
