(Molly Bruns, Headline USA) With the anniversary of the disastrous and deadly withdrawal from Afghanistan approaching, the Biden administration is working overtime to create some goodwill with the American people.
In an indicator of how low the administration’s bar is these days, spokespeople from the National Security Council said that their main goal is to avoid doing anything “stupid,” according to the Daily Wire
Admin officials also said that the Biden team is mainly concerned that if the marketing is done poorly, people will be reminded of the occasion as the debacle it was, possibly hurting Biden’s already severely compromised public perception.
The withdrawal of American troops from Afghanistan in August 2021 has been roundly criticized and is considered to be one of the many tone-deaf failures of the Biden administration, particularly after the death of 13 American soldiers and the abandonment of thousands of allies and Americans in the foreign nation.
The country was quickly taken over by the Taliban, who now possess billions of dollars worth of American equipment which was left behind.
Biden’s team is preparing for Congressional investigations into the decision to end the war in Afghanistan.
Sen. Jim Risch, R-Idaho, who is the top Republican on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, released the investigation into the Afghanistan withdrawal in February 2022. The investigation found that the top levels of the Biden administration in the White House, Department of Defense and Department of State were responsible for leaving behind hundreds of Americans.
The report found that the plan, which was proposed in April 2021, did not start to be executed until it was too late—the administration “wasted” months before the NSC started evacuating citizens, military personnel and Afghan allies.
Before launching a noncombatant evacuation operation, “State did not officially reach out to regional partners until the middle of July, and DoD did not engage the Qatari government about using facilities there until the middle of August,” the report said.
“Having wasted 115 days, the NSC did not conduct its first senior meeting to discuss the withdrawal until August 14 at 3:30 pm, just hours before Kabul fell, when evacuations became life or death for Americans, Afghans, and U.S. military personnel.”
Other reports found that U.S. military leaders encouraged Biden to leave a small troop presence in the country to keep the Taliban from taking over, but the president insisted otherwise.
The Biden administration is hoping its furious spin to rewrite history will make it past a public already worried about myriad other Biden failures and their ongoing repercussions.
