Biden Admin Weighing Ban on Gas Stoves

'The federal government has no business telling American families how to cook their dinner...'

(Headline USAThe Biden administration is reportedly considering banning gas stoves, citing the pollutants released by the appliances, according to Bloomberg.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission is mulling an outright ban on the future sales of gas stoves following studies that showed emissions from the appliances can cause health and respiratory problems.

“This is a hidden hazard,” CPSC Commissioner Richard Trumka Jr. told the outlet. “Any option is on the table. Products that can’t be made safe can be banned.”

The studies cited by the CPSC linked gas stoves to respiratory illness, cardiovascular problems, cancer, and other health conditions.

In one report, for example, researchers claimed 12% of childhood asthma cases can be attributed to gas stoves.

Another report from the American Chemical Society found that gas stoves emit nitrogen dioxide, carbon monoxide, etc. at levels deemed unsafe by the Environmental Protection Agency.

“There is about 50 years of health studies showing that gas stoves are bad for our health, and the strongest evidence is on children and children’s asthma,” Brady Seals, a manager for the nonprofit clean energy group RMI and a co-author of the study, said. “By having a gas connection, we are polluting the insides of our homes.”

Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., blasted the Biden administration over the news, calling it a “recipe for disaster.”

“The federal government has no business telling American families how to cook their dinner,” he wrote on Twitter. “I can tell you the last thing that would ever leave my house is the gas stove that we cook on.”

Restaurant owner Andrew Gruel slammed the CPSC’s cited studies as “junk” and warned Biden’s proposed ban would hurt small businesses and American families.

“We have used gas stoves for hundreds of years,” he said.

“There is no correlation between an increase in childhood asthma and their use,” he continued. “This is an overreach based on a subjective hypothesis from a bad study. More fodder in the war on gas that will hurt low-income homes and small biz,” he wrote.

Other critics pointed out that even the Bidens use a gas stove.
