Incoming Dem Oversight Chair Compares Himself to Child-Killing Clown

(Luis Cornelio, Headline USA) While Harry Truman and Frank Church are remembered as two of the most consequential investigators in congressional history, the incoming Democrat chairman of the House Oversight Committee is looking elsewhere for inspiration: Pennywise.

Rep. Robert Garcia, D-Calif., who is expected to take the helm of the Oversight Committee in January 2027, compared himself on X to Pennywise, the evil child-predator clown from the 1990 miniseries It, an adaptation of Stephen King’s novel of the same name.

The post, captioned “When they go low this is me,” features a screenshot from the 1990 miniseries showing actor Tim Curry as Pennywise peering out of a storm drain.

The scene also shows Georgie, a young boy, following a paper boat floating along the rainwater outside the drain.

“Go on, kiddo. Take it,” Pennywise tells the boy, later dragging him into the drain.

The post appears to signal how aggressively Garcia intends to approach his chairmanship after Democrats secured a comfortable majority in the House these past midterms.

“LAWYER UP,” Garcia infamously wrote on the evening of Nov. 3, after it became clear Republicans would lose their majorities in both chambers of Congress.

In another post, Garcia wrote, “Oversight Democrats are ready to take on the crooks, the con men and the Trump crime family. Lawyer up.”

Among the issues Garcia is expected to take up are the Trump family’s business dealings, including its cryptocurrency ventures and what Democrats have described as ties to Pentagon contractors.

Separately, ICE’s enforcement tactics are also expected to come under congressional scrutiny, particularly following a series of mishaps, deadly enforcement operations and other shootings involving potential targets.

Garcia formally launched his bid to become committee chairman Thursday.

A Garcia spokesperson did not respond to Headline USA’s request for an interview with the Democratic lawmaker before this article’s publication, despite his frequent appearances on social media and cable news.
