(Elyse Apel, The Center Square) Multiple law enforcement agencies joined together to execute warrants across the Twin Cities, raiding several locations Thursday.
This comes as fraud investigations are ongoing throughout taxpayer-funded programs in Minnesota.
“#FBIMinneapolis with federal and state partners conducted court-authorized investigative activity at multiple sites in ongoing efforts to protect communities from fraud,” said the FBI Minneapolis office in a statement on Thursday afternoon. “We are committed to working together to uphold the law and safeguard public resources.”
According to the Minnesota Attorney General’s office, its Medicaid Fraud Control Unit participated in two of the raids, executing search warrants alongside the Department of Health and Human Services Office of Inspector General and the Federal Bureau of Investigation at two entities providing autism and other Medicaid-funded services.
“As part of our ongoing efforts to fight fraud, my Medicaid Fraud Control Unit worked alongside federal law enforcement to execute two search warrants at Medicaid-funded businesses that we are actively investigating,” said Attorney General Keith Ellison, a Democrat. “It’s the Attorney General’s job to fight Medicaid fraud and I’m extremely proud of the success of my Medicaid fraud unit, which the federal government has acknowledged is both effective and aggressive.”
Other locations were also raided, though the attorney general’s office was not involved in those searches, according to a statement provided to The Center Square.
“It’s my understanding federal government may have taken other actions that are outside our office’s Medicaid fraud authority,” said John Stiles, deputy chief of staff for the AG’s office.
The raids are the latest in Minnesota as concerns over widespread fraud in the state continue to grow. In April, more than 20 locations were raided.
Ellison said his office is working to bring accountability.
“The feds acknowledge this unit is both aggressive and one of the most effective in America,” he said on Thursday. “We will keep holding fraudsters accountable without fear or favor.”
Federal authorities have yet to disclose the full scope of their investigations into Medicaid-funded services. This has left some with more questions than answers.
“No charges reported yet. No arrests reported yet. No dollar amount reported yet,” said Jeremy Munson, former Republican Minnesota state representative and 2026 state Senate candidate. “A raid is not a conviction. But Minnesota taxpayers deserve to know what was going on inside programs they pay for—and why it took federal agents showing up to find out. That was your money.”
The FBI did not respond to requests for comment by publication.
