(Luis Cornelio, Headline USA) Immigration and Customs Enforcement has detained a Ghanaian Christian blogger who has expressed support for President Donald Trump’s immigration agenda.
Samuel Sey, a Christian writer who runs the Slow to Write blog, was detained at the John Glenn Columbus International Airport in Ohio on Oct. 21 while traveling to appear on Jeremy Boreing’s podcast.
Boreing is a conservative commentator and co-founder of the Daily Wire.
Born in Ghana, Sey moved to Canada before coming to the U.S. in 2022. According to DHS, Sey overstayed his lawful entry by four years.
Following detention, Sey signed paperwork agreeing to voluntary removal from the country and would remain in custody until he is deported, DHS added.
I have received a statement from DHS regarding Sam Sey:

Sey’s detention was first made public by Joel Berry, producer of the Jeremy Boreing Podcast, who described the incident as a clerical mistake.
Sey’s wife, however, clarified that he did not have a green card but was working with an attorney to get one.
“Our family is trying to understand what went wrong in the process. In the spirit of Romans 13, our family fully supports and respects American law and are prayerfully working to get him home through the legal process,” she said.

A GiveSendGo fundraiser launched to support Sey’s family during his detention has raised more than $26,000. Many immigration hawks questioned why Berry and others were raising money for someone here illegally while telling Americans to pull themselves up by their bootstraps.
The circumstances surrounding Sey’s detention remain unclear, though immigration authorities have reportedly cross-referenced airline data with government records to identify potential targets for removal.
