(Luis Cornelio, Headline USA) A recent Washington Post report has exposed a former high-ranking Ukrainian official as the coordinator behind the explosions that rocked both the Nord Stream 1 and Nord Stream 2 natural gas pipelines.
The report, drawing on sources from Ukrainian and European officials, refutes earlier speculations that had blamed Russia for the devastating attack, which triggered a series of criminal investigations and raised alarm bells in the U.S. and Europe.
The alleged coordinator, Roman Chervinsky, a 48-year-old colonel with deep ties to Ukrainian intelligence services, is said to have “played a central role in the bombing.”
The report suggests that Chervinsky oversaw logistics and provided support to a six-person group, which utilized fake IDs to rent a sailboat and employed deep diving equipment to plant explosives on the pipelines.
Further implicating the Ukrainian government, the Post asserted that Chervinsky did not act independently but was following orders from senior Ukrainian officials, all of whom answered to Gen. Valery Zaluzhny, the highest-ranking military official in Ukraine.

Chervinsky vehemently denied his involvement, dismissing the accusations as Russian propaganda. “All speculations about my involvement in the attack on Nord Stream are being spread by Russian propaganda without any basis,” he declared in his defense.
The report’s findings shift the focus of blame from Russia and even the U.S. to Ukraine, challenging the narrative that had gained traction in the wake of the pipeline explosions.
Shortly after the blast, National Security Council spokesperson John Kirby refuted the allegations that the U.S. played a role in the blast.
“It’s a completely false story. There is no truth to it, Shannon,” Kirby said during a February interview with Fox News. “Not a shred of it. It is not true. The United States, and no proxies of the United States, had anything to do with that, nothing.”
The Post detailed Ukraine’s history of launching “daring and secretive” operations against Russia, but an attack on the Nord Stream pipelines marked a significant escalation. The pipelines served a crucial role in supplying energy to millions of Europeans, the report added.
The motivation behind the attack is speculated to be Ukraine’s longstanding concerns that Nord Stream would enable Russia to circumvent Ukrainian pipelines, thereby depriving Kyiv of substantial transit revenue.
