(Jacob Bruns, Headline USA) President Joe Biden recently commented that he finds himself routinely fooled by artificial intelligence “deep fakes,” which imitate a person’s speaking patterns and voice to give sound bytes that sound just like someone, the Daily Mail reported.
And yet, it seems that his emphasis on deep fakes may be merely an excuse to disguise both the president’s own chronic case of foot-in-mouth disease, which has only been exacerbated by his advanced age (he turns 81 in November) and possible dementia.
Biden brought up AI while announcing sweeping new regulations which will attempt to protect “consumers” and ensure national security.
“It’s already happening,” Biden said to a crowd of officials.
“AI devices are being used to deceive people,” he continued. “Deep fakes use AI-generated audio and video to smear reputations,” and also to “spread fake news and commit fraud.”
The president even noted that he has been fooled by deep fakes of himself.
“With AI, fraudsters can take three seconds recording of your voice,” he said. “I’ve watched one of me a couple of times—I said, ‘When the hell did I say that?'”
For Biden, deep fakes are “mind blowing” because they can be used to “scam loved ones into sending money because they think you’re in trouble.”
He also claimed that “everyone has a right to know” when a video or audio clip is generated by AI, or is authentic.
Yet, the jury is out as to why Biden is so concerned about deep fakes, especially considering that his own presidency has been nothing but a long string of gaffes and blunders, and he rarely seems aware of what he’s actually saying.
For example, Biden recently got up in front of reporters and gave a sigh of relief, celebrating a few weeks at home after a long overseas trip that he never took.
“I’ve been going around the world a lot lately,” he said after being overseas for a grand total of one day in October. “It’s good to be home.”

Biden has been harshly criticized for his regular vacations, including trips to his beach house in Delaware. By some estimates, he has spent more than 40% of his presidency enjoying rest and recreation.
Rapper 50 Cent was one of the latest to criticize him following news reports that showed him napping on the beach even as American hostages remain in Hamas captivity in Gaza.
